Histroy
DeepMind a startup Company founded in September 2010 buy Demis Hassabis, Shane Legg and Mustafa .
Suleyman Scott Banister and Elon Musk.Jaan Tallinn was an early investor to the company.
Co Founder Demis is a former child chess master, who finished his A-levels two years early before coding the multi-million selling simulation game Theme Park aged 17.
Following graduation from Cambridge University where he met with Hassabis and Legg .
Google announced the company had acquired DeepMind for $500 million in 2014 And then google changed the name to Google DeepMind.
Goal Of DeepMind
According to the website that
Goal is to solve intelligence they are trying to achieve this by combining the best techniques from machine learning and systems neuroscience to build powerful general-purpose learning algorithms .
or in other words they want to formalize intelligence find out what it is and how it works.
The endgame is not just to implement this into machines but also understand the human brain demos attempting to distill intelligence into an algorithmic construct may prove to be the best path to understanding some of the enduring mysteries of our minds .
Okay so how does this all work ?
The AI from deep mind uses a technique called deep reinforcement learning which makes it deferent from such as IBM’s Deep Blue or Watson, which were developed for a predefined purpose and only function within its scope.
Deep mind claims that their system is not preprogrammed and it learns from experience using only raw pixels as data.
Technically the reinforcement that deepmind uses is model free meaning that it doesn’t need a structure or set of rules to learn.
General-purpose term what does that actually mean ? because the machine learns from past experience and data so that it can perform well across a wide variety of tasks straight out of the box .
If you can give deepmind a video game to play it had to figure out how to do everything only from its own experience before training . After some time it plays games (most notably Breakout),more efficiently than any human ever could.
So what could general-purpose AI be
In a number of interviews Denis has talked about applications and healthcare smartphone assistance and robotics as possible applications.
For general AI some other applications of such AI include online customer service computer vision flying ants general computer science and news publishing and writing general purpose AI actually could be huge it can be useful anywhere.
It can be thought of as another emerging science such as rockets a science founded in general purpose digital neural networks that use reinforcement learning could lay the groundwork for
unimaginable things in the near future.
